Persuasive Response #3

3. It is legal to seek asylum in Australia, even if you arrive on a boat without a visa. People smugglers charge up to $20,000 for asylum seekers to take a journey to countries like Australia to apply for refugee status. If you were an asylum seeker, what would you do?

Asylum seekers who arrive in Australia by boat are neither engaging in illegal activity, nor are they immigrants. The Government stipulates that it would usually be considered as illegal if you come to Australia without a visa, but should not be treated as illegal if a person is seeking asylum.
Just think if you had a family and were poor with no way of surviving would you come to Australia by boat? I think I'd have to be in that situation to make a choice that was suitable for my family and myself whether to go to Australia by boat and may not survive or get granted refuge, or wait until we have a visa and come to Australia that way.

Hypothetically speaking depending on the place I was living in I may come to Australia by boat, but it would always be in my mind whether we were going to survive and get granted refugee status. It would be the waiting I wouldn't like the most and the fear of the unknown, like not knowing if it will work out.

If I was to wait and get my visa it would be basically be the same as coming to Australia by boat because you have to wait for your visa to come and in the meantime you may not survive because of the place your living in. I think I'd probably be more afraid of getting on the boat and knowing I have endangered my family and they may not survive.

Then theres the fear of this!
